On Sunday, February 21st, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. CityCenter Danbury, The Danbury Arena and the NECBL Danbury Westerners are sponsoring the annual “Chili Winter Warm Up.”
The competition, open to nonprofit community organizations, clubs, restaurants and the general public, allows teams to showcase their chili cooking talents. The entry fee for the nonprofit division is $45 per team and includes the placement of a business card ad in the program book. The fee for all others is $65 per team.
Nonprofit winners will be awarded cash prizes: 1st Place ($600), 2nd Place ($300) and 3rd Place ($150). Plaques will be presented to all winners including the top three teams in the Restaurant/Caterer division as well as in the Open category. Chili will be judged according to taste, appearance, creativity and theme. Additionally, plaques will be presented for the 'most creative,' 'most enthusiastic' and 'best costumed' teams.
A public skate is also available during the event.

RULES & REGISTRATION
1. Each Chili Team is asked to bring serving utensils, (ladle), latex gloves, a baseball cap or hair net and chili, which is pre-cooked in an approved kitchen sanctioned by the Health Department. Each entry should provide at least 10 quarts of chili for sampling. We will supply paper products, heating pans and Sterno. Recipes must be prepared in advance, however not-for-profit and Open category participants will be required to cook in certified kitchens prior to the event as well as to attend a rules meeting at Danbury City Hall. Restaurants, schools churches and service clubs with approved kitchens will not have to attend this meeting.
2. Each team is responsible for its own set-up and break down, and we encourage contestants to decorate their table and themselves with some chili creativity. We ask that your chili be ready for sampling for the judges by 12:30 PM.
3. Each Team will need to provide an 8½” x 11” Chili Bio for display purposes. This should state: a) Team name and its participants, b) Your chili name, c) Rating of how spicy the chili is (Hot, Medium, Mild,), d) Interesting facts or information to share. Please include a copy of your bio and recipe as media outlets may wish to publish it.
4. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three non-profit teams. Awards will be presented to the top teams in the Restaurant and Open categories plus a People’s Choice award will also be presented. Team awards will also be presented for the Most Enthusiastic, Most Creative and Best Costumed teams.
5. Entry fee is $65 for caterer’s, restaurants and open categories and $45 for not-for-profit organizations. An additional fee of $20 will be added for preparing and serving two chili recipes.
