Three aspects make a great day at the ballpark: a thrilling game, a lively atmosphere, and memorable food. While the action on the field draws fans through the gates, the Westerners' renowned concession stand has become a destination of its own, cementing itself as one of the best food spots in the NECBL.
Leading the way is Westy's Food Barn, the centerpiece of the Westerners' food offerings.
Westy’s Food Barn offers a wide variety of food, from your standard ballpark hot dog or hamburger, all the way to a cup of noodles. The food barn has been run by Sherri Terrell and Shelley for decades. Terrell has been working in the food barn for 16 years, when the food barn was just a little grill and a couple of folding tables.
“It started with them asking me if I could cook, and we have ended up with all this,” said Terrell.
Sherri has done it all, from serving players, coaches, and fans to hosting a westerner in her own home.
“I love being able to serve the boys and fans; they become a part of my family throughout the
summer,” Sherri said.
Westy’s Food Barn serves players, coaches, interns, and fans. By the end of a typical night, Shelley and Sherri feed 300 to 400 people.
For fans in search of a drink to go with their meal, Stalker's Bullpen Bar is a staple.
Stalker’s Bullpen Bar offers a large selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks for fans. Anything from Surfsides, High Noons, beer, and even mixed drinks. The Bullpen Bar also offers local beers from Charter Oak Brewery and Housatonic River Brewing, where you can find them sampling to fans outside of the Bullpen Bar all summer.
Kevin Patrick has been a volunteer here at Rogers Park for 10 years.
“When the bar started, it was only a couple of folding tables with coolers,” Patrick said.
On a hot summer day, Stalker’s Bullpen Bar can serve up to 350 thirsty Westerners fans.
“It’s great! I get to help out here by being on the board and the bar while watching a game.” Kevin said
From the first pitch to the last out, it’s the people behind Westy’s Food Barn and Stalker’s Bullpen Bar who help make a night at Rogers Park memorable.
