During a typical baseball season, players become family; they spend almost every day with
each other, sharing the highs and lows of a long season and getting to know one another like
family. For Ronan and Gavin Donohue, however, that bond began long before they ever stepped
onto the field together.
Now teammates with the Danbury Westerners, the brothers have taken that connection to
another level while making their mark on the NECBL. Both currently rank among the league
leaders in home runs and runs batted in, giving the Westerners a unique storyline to follow as
the season reaches its final stretch.
Gavin Donohue has had a stellar summer with the Westerners. The senior from Sacred Heart
posted a .285 batting average, with a .373 on-base percentage with a league leading nine home
runs, and 35 runs batted in. Beyond the numbers, Donohue has enjoyed sharing the field with
his brother throughout the summer, making their individual success even more meaningful.
“ Ronan and I have played almost every year together; getting him here in Danbury this year is
nice, and having both of us playing great is really cool too,” Gavin Donohue said.
Ronan Donohue has also had an exceptional summer in Danbury. The senior from Sacred
Heart posted a .271 batting average, with a .375 on-base percentage, seven home runs and 34
runs batted in. Second only to his brother Gavin. Like his brother, Ronan has appreciated the
opportunity to share the field with Gavin and watch both of them succeed in Danbury.
“ It is amazing to play alongside Gavin here in Danbury, and have both of us doing so well is just
a cherry on top,” Gavin Donohue said.
Growing up playing baseball with your brother is special, but playing every day together on the
same team is a bond that can never be matched.
“ We now are hearing people say, ' Watch out for those Donohue twins,’ and it's cool to hear our
names thrown around together,” Ronan Donohue said.
As the season winds down, the Donohue brothers continue to make their mark together, proving
that their bond extends far beyond the baseball field.
