Westerners Battle for August Baseball

With the NECBL regular season entering its final stretch, the race for the playoffs is beginning to
take shape, and the Danbury Westerners are right in the middle of it. With just a handful of
games remaining, every win carries added importance as teams battle for one of the league’s
eight playoff spots.

Sitting at 17-17, the Westerners currently hold the sixth playoff spot. However, the race remains
extremely tight, with Bristol tied with Danbury in winning percentage and North Shore just a half-game behind. With the margin for error shrinking, Danbury will need to continue picking up
wins to maintain its position and secure a spot in the postseason.

With the playoff race tightening, Westerners Coach Billy Gerlott emphasized enjoyment of the
games from a player perspective.

“To be honest it all boils down to the guys having fun and buying in at the right time and letting
them enjoy the game and having that positivity help win us games,” Gerlott said.

With so many teams separated by just a few games, every contest carries more importance
than ever. Games against teams competing directly for playoff spots could prove especially
significant, turning the final stretch of the regular season into a preview of the postseason. For
Danbury, the path to the playoffs will come down to consistency, execution, and the ability to
take advantage of opportunities against the teams around them in the standings.

Despite the crowded playoff race, the Westerners still control their own path. By stringing
together wins and taking care of business against the teams chasing the same postseason spot,
Danbury can secure its place in the playoffs. With the regular season winding down, every game
brings the Westerners one step closer to finding out whether they will continue their season into
August.
