A month of summer baseball brings hot streaks, breakout performances, and unforgettable moments, but only a select few players consistently separate themselves from the rest. Throughout June, those performances helped power the Danbury Westerners on both sides of the ball, earning them recognition as the team's Players of the Month. From dominant pitching outings to clutch offensive production, these players set the standard for the Westerners throughout the opening month of the season.
No Westerner was more consistent at the plate in June than Kyle Garbowski, making him the team's Hitter of the Month. The six-foot-three first baseman from Quinnipiac University has been exceptional for Hat City so far this summer. The New Fairfield native, through nineteen games this season, is batting .306 with 22 hits and ten runs batted in. Garbowski's all-around production has anchored the Westerners' lineup throughout June.
On the mound, Cole Gibson set the tone with a dominant month, earning Pitcher of the Month honors. The six-foot-three right-handed pitcher from the University of New Haven has been stellar for the Westerners this summer. Through 16 innings of work this season, Gibson posted a 1.13 ERA with 21 strikeouts and allowed just two earned runs. His consistency has made him one of the NECBL's most reliable arms.
Joining him as Pitcher of the Month is Simon Yochum, who was equally instrumental in the Westerners' success on the mound. The six-foot-tall right-handed submariner has been incredible for the Westerners out of the bullpen. In six appearances out of the bullpen, Yochum held opposing hitters to a .080 batting average, allowing just two hits and no runs. The Westerners have found a reliable arm in the bullpen in Yochum.
There is still one month of NECBL baseball left to play, but the combination of Garbowski, Gibson, and Yochum has been a driving force behind the Westerners' success this season.
